Many employers will agree that their number one mistake is hiring the wrong person for the job. It can be difficult to gauge how a potential employee will perform in a role based solely on how they perform in an interview.

It is important to hire employees who naturally fit into your company’s culture and complement the brand. Ultimately, personality beats qualifications when employers are looking to hire. Finding the perfect candidate for the role is essential for your company’s productivity, morale and profitability.

Want people to work for you? Be frank, not funny. [TWEET]

The first part of a job posting most applicants see isn’t the salary, the company or even the location. It’s the title.

Recruiters know this, yet too many HR professionals make the mistake of trying to spice up their ads with over-the-top titles to make their posts stand out. PHP Rockstar, Enterprise Sales Superhero, Awesome Administrative Assistant and Beverage Sales Wizard are all actual job titles I found with a quick Google search.

Sure these embellished titles grab our attention, but do they do so for the wrong reasons? Here’s why your company may want to stop posting your roles under fancy names to attract candidates:

It's virtually impossible to go a day without reading a scathing report on the millennial generation. Labels such as selfish, lazy and unreliable seem regularly attached to this tech-savvy population on course to compose 40 percent of the nation's workforce by 2020.

Every business uses suppliers for something— whether it’s a fleet of company cars or the electricity needed to power the office computers. And the prices you pay your suppliers directly impact the management of your cash flow, especially if your clients take the maximum amount of time to pay you. Since time is money, it is extremely beneficial to your business that you negotiate the best terms possible with all of your suppliers.

It's never been easier to post a job on TheLadders. [TWEET]

If the recruiting world ever had a currency, that currency would be jobs. The average recruiter works on 5-15 jobs at any given time. That’s a lot of time spent on writing job requirements, posting jobs, sourcing candidates, reviewing applicants and scheduling interviews. It never feels like there’s enough time in the day. At TheLadders, we want to make things time-efficient so you can focus your attention on the people who matter--the candidates. We’re excited to introduce our redesigned posting experience.

Is your web browser compromising your security?

Why me?! And other things we shout when we’re prompted to update our browsers.

We’ve all been there: You’ve just sat down at your computer, ready to surf the web to your heart’s content, when suddenly your eyes are assaulted by that nagging little box telling you a new version of your browser is available to download. “Not this again!” you cry in anguish, shaking your fist toward the sky.

Who has time for this? You’ve got emails to check, hiring managers to connect with, candidates to find, and golden retrievers’ adorable first romps in the snow to watch. How long will this update take to complete? What if you don’t like the new features?  And you just know you’ll have to re-start your whole browser, possibly even your computer, when it’s finished.

How very tempting it is to click "Skip this update" or "Remind me later," or even “Don’t show this message again” and be rid of that rectangular nuisance for good, free at last to peruse the web as Al Gore intended it…

However, I’m here to explain why you should just bite the bullet and update your web browser to the newest version as soon as possible. Crazy, I know. But please try to suspend your disbelief long enough to read these four reasons why we at TheLadders highly recommend updating your browser:
