Amanda sits down with JobMobile panelist Jen Warne, SVP of Talent for Lincoln Financial Group. 

Jen_WarneJen, how long have you worked at Lincoln Financial Group and what is your current role?

I have had the opportunity to work with Lincoln Financial Group for about three years. As the Senior Vice President of Talent, I lead the strategy and execution of Lincoln’s enterprise talent agenda, which is focused on building organizational and leadership capability, strengthening the talent pipeline, and enhancing Lincoln’s ability to attract and engage talent. I oversee the company’s organizational and leadership effectiveness, recruitment, career management, enterprise learning and development, leadership development, succession planning, and business talent partnering services. 

You’ve been in the recruiting business for more than 15 years. How has the emergence of new technologies over the past 10 years changed the recruitment industry?

I believe it has transformed the industry.  If you think back, before the popularity of social networking sites, finding passive talent was very challenging and time consuming.  Those two factors resulted in companies often outsourcing the work to search firms, who had built their businesses around proactive networking and talent pipelining.  Now, the expectation is that in-house recruitment teams proactively network with top talent and cultivate a rich talent pipeline and deliver services that were once outsourced.  Technology is the primary driver of this change and the enabler to making it work.

In your opinion, has technology – in the form of social media, video conferencing, and smart devices – made your job easier or more challenging? Please explain.

Both. Easier, because as I mentioned, we now have greater and more timely access to talent because of technology.  More challenging, because the environment around us is constantly evolving, and that requires all of us to stay fresh on the latest tools and techniques to do our jobs most effectively.  If we don’t, we will be at a significant disadvantage.

I would describe our culture as a differentiator when it comes to our value proposition in the market. What are your greatest hiring needs right now?

We have been averaging over 300 job openings a month, across all of our business areas and at all levels of the organization.
